About Us

In 1947, God called Oran and Arshaloos Bell to establish an evangelical ministry to the people of Haiti - a land held captive to Satan through witchcraft, superstition, and satanic worship since the early 1800s. God gave them a vision and burden for sharing the gospel message with a people who were tormented by fear and living without hope in a poverty-stricken country. The Bells soon recognized that the real poverty was in the souls of the people sitting in spiritual darkness and bondage from the satanic oppression that dominated them. This realization made the Bells persistent in their efforts and methods of reaching the people. Graciously, the Lord showed them opportunities through medical clinics, day schools, and vacation Bible schools for evangelizing. The Gospel message was gradually received and souls were coming to Christ. The Bells saw a great need to train leaders as well as to disciple believers in biblical doctrines and principles of Christian living to combat false doctrines. Bible studies were started in homes and the numbers grew. In less than one year a church was founded in the northern village of Pignon. The Bells used these same methods and eventually expanded the ministry to the nearby village of St. Raphael. Some years later, an orphanage was added, which successfully became the core of a foster care program operating from within the church. God blessed His Word, and the ministry thrived through trained national leadership. The Bells also nurtured a ministry in the southeastern part of Haiti (Jacmel) for a short period of time. Then they retired after 32 years on the field, and the ministry continued as an indigenous work for many years.

In 1996, Sarah and Tom Bennett (daughter and son-in-law of the Bells) entered the ministry to continue the evangelistic vision of their parents. The ministry became known as Mission for Haiti, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. MFH is governed by a Board of Directors made up of godly men and women from the business and academic community. MFH has no paid staff and is volunteer-driven to achieve its ministry objectives, which are to promote evangelization, discipleship, and Christian education in both the church and community in order to develop a future of godly national leadership in Haiti.

In 2006, MFH left the indigenous work in the North to partner with national pastor Dieupie Cherubin and Hosanna Ministries in Jacmel, a city in the southeastern part of Haiti. Pastor Cherubin, a dedicated and committed servant of God, is pastor of Hosanna Baptist Church.  He oversees eight sister churches. In addition, he is president and administrator of Haiti Baptist School of Theology, which opened its doors in the fall of 2008. Hosanna Christian Schools currently have both a Kindergarten and elementary school that has over 350 students that has been serving the community since 1976. This Fall Hosanna Christian schools will start a high school program beginning with two classes for the seventh grade and add a grade each year until a full High School program is accomplished.

In 2009, Hosanna Ministries has also been chosen to be a recipient of Camps Abroad training, which is a ministry of The Wilds Christian Camp and Conference Center.  This well established ministry will train Haitian personnel from Jacmel in all of the policy and procedures to run a truly Christ-honoring Christian Camping and conference ministry for the youth of Haiti.  The ministry has a six acre temporary site within five miles of the Church. VBS, discipleship classes and evangelism make this ministry a real important tool in the evangelizing of Jacmel.
